What’s the North Initiative?

Our quarterly North Initiative Program has donated close to $200k worth of Compass Studio resources in the past five years. Its impact? Helping over 15 organisations amplify their PR & Marketing efforts to do good. From day one, we set out to fulfill 5% of all Compass billable hours through pro-bono projects, and five years later, we are proud to say that we’ve achieved this.

But we must continuously evolve. We must always do better.

For this reason, we’ve made a conscious decision to shake up our submissions process: to make it fairer, more transparent and more available to businesses who are doing good in the NFP and NGO space, than ever before.

Guidelines

Who are you:

We welcome submissions from any Not-For-Profit, Non-Government-Organisation or natural-disaster impacted business in Australia to enter. We are welcoming all; big or small, who are in the business of world-bettering to let us help you amplify your messaging and impact in 2022.

How to enter:

Record a 5 Minute video pitch outlining:

  • What your business is and what do we need to know about your business journey so far?
  • What bit of the world does it make better?
  • What is your potential impact?
  • Where do you want to take your business in the future?
  • What are you hoping a partnership with Compass Studio would unlock?
  • What challenges are you looking to overcome in the next year?

Complete the form embedded on this page, completing all steps, uploading your completed video.

Tips for your video pitch:

  • Find a nice, evenly lit space: somewhere that has a bit of character. Make sure to position yourself away from direct sunlight, side-on or facing a window with light evenly spread across your face to prevent any dark shadows.
  • Depending on the number of people in your team you would like to showcase, record your pitch video in either a vertical format (for 1-2 team members) or a horizontal format (if you are looking to include more team members. Make sure to allow for plenty of space so no one is cut out of the frame.
  • So we can clearly hear you, check for noise in the background and make sure to turn off or move away from any humming appliances.
Adjust the camera’s settings to the best quality possible – If possible, adjust the camera settings to be 4K and 60 frames per second (Found by tapping in the top right corner of your iPhone camera screen)
  • Hit record and let the questions flow. Take it nice and slow and make sure to enunciate clearly. Give it a few takes if you need and remember to take a deep breath before recording.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for The North Initiative: Good Comp, your organisation must have an annual turnover of no more than 2 Million AUD per year.

Your organisation must be a Charity, Not-For-Profit, or business impacted by a natural disaster that ‘does good’.

If you are a business impacted by a natural disaster, you have experienced a decline in turnover of 40% or more due to the impacts of a natural disaster, during FY 2022, compared FY 2021. Please note we’ll need a letter from your Accountant confirming this.

The ‘good’ your organisation does can be in the environmental, animal welfare, or social impact space. Ultimately, you and your organisation are led by a responsibility to make the world better.

The ‘Good’: your organisation attempts to tackle the root cause of an issue, e.g. campaigning against logging to minimise deforestation, rather than planting trees or minimising plastic waste with a product/service, rather than conducting beach clean-ups.
